"For the past month, I have been working on the film "The Guitar" as a guitar coach to the actress Saffron Burrows. It's not like normal lessons. I have to show her how to play little clips from the score, written by David Mansfield. (He is absolutely fantastic, as a player, a composer and from the few meetings I've had with him, a person too -- very gentle. He's in my top friends - definitely worth your while to check him out.) We're also trying to write little bits that she can play as David's music is pretty intricate. I'll also be the hand double for some of the scenes. It's quite a challenge as Saffron is so busy all the time, my god, i can't believe how every minute of a movie actress' time is occupied. So, she's my new hero these days for several reasons. First of all, she is just the sweetest pea. She's always sending me these little text messages, i.e., how was your gig last night or thanks for the lesson. Very thoughtful and sweet. And I'm just in total admiration of how much she has to keep together. Learning lines, learning guitar, organizing her life around several projects -- and she's always chipper and in a good mood and treats everyone like an equal. Meeting successful people like this makes me feel right about being in this insane business...

Being on the set is, well, pretty boring. You wait around and wait around until they need you for something, and then with a snap of a finger, you have to be right there. Everyone on the set is incredibly nice and has a sense of humor, so, thank god for that.

The script is written by Amos Poe and the film is being directed by Amy Redford. Amos is a sweetheart too, I've hung out with him a little and I really like him. I've had very brief meetings with Amy, but she is also very cool and very strong. Good qualities for sure."

Redford to direct 'Guitar'
She makes feature debut with indie film

Amy Redford is making her feature directing debut on "The Guitar," an indie film just getting under way in New York.
Amos Poe's script concerns the transformation of a woman after she is diagnosed with terminal cancer, fired from her thankless job and abandoned by her boyfriend. Given two months to live, she blows her savings and maxes out her credit cards to pursue her dreams, which include romance and learning to play the electric guitar.

Saffron Burrows, Isaach de Bankole and Paz de la Huerta star.

Redford, daughter of Robert Redford, is producing the film with Heyward Collins, Bob Jason, Poe and Brad Zions; Andy Emilio and Bob Kravitz exec produce.

Redford began her career directing theater, but then moved into acting in films and TV projects and took her time coming back to helming, which she said is her first love.

Robert Redford bekommt Konkurrenz von seiner Tochter Amy. Die 36-Jährige, die in London und San Francisco Theater studierte, wird nun zum ersten Mal bei einem Film Regie führen. Wie das Filmblatt "Variety" berichtet, wird Amy Redford den Streifen "The Guitar" inszenieren und produzieren.
 
Der Film dreht sich um eine unheilbar an Krebs erkrankte Frau, die ihren Job verliert und von ihrem Freund verlassen wird. Sie hat noch zwei Monate zu leben und erfüllt sich endlich ihren großen Traum: Sie lernt, Gitarre zu spielen.
 
Amy Redford hat bereits einige Theaterstücke inszeniert und stand auch als Schauspielerin auf der Bühne. Die Dreharbeiten sollen in Kürze in New York beginnen.
